Gibran Urges Ministers to Implement Coding in Preschools and Elementary Schools

Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who currently serves as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, continues to demonstrate his commitment to advancing Indonesia’s education sector. Accompanied by Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti and Chairperson of Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR) Hetifah Sjaifudian, on Monday, November 11, 2024, opened the Joint Education Policy Evaluation Coordination Meeting with Heads of Education Offices from Across Indonesia, held in South Jakarta.

In one of his remarks that drew attention, Gibran recommended that robotics lessons become an integral part of the educational curriculum in Indonesian schools. With his strong background in government and his futuristic vision, Gibran recognizes that introducing robotics at an early age can help prepare Indonesia’s youth to face an increasingly digital and technology-driven world.

“Yesterday, I asked the Minister during our last meeting if it might be possible to implement coding classes at the elementary or junior high school level,” said Gibran.

The Importance of Robotics Education in Schools

Amid rapid technological advancements, Indonesia must prepare a generation that can not only keep up with but also actively participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming, stated that robotics education in schools will be a crucial first step.

Robotics not only introduces children to technology, but also teaches them critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.

Gibran recognizes that to prepare Indonesian children to face increasingly technology-driven global challenges, our education system needs to adapt. Therefore, he proposes that robotics be included as part of the mandatory curriculum in Indonesian schools.

By teaching robotics, students not only learn how to assemble and operate robots but also learn about programming and algorithms—skills that will be invaluable in the future.

As Gibran stated, Indonesia needs a young generation skilled in technology to achieve Indonesia Emas 2045—an era in which Indonesia becomes an advanced, innovation- and digital-driven nation.

In this context, Codero serves as a partner in technology education. Codero helps young people in Indonesia prepare to be part of the country’s technological future by providing a learning platform for coding and robotics tailored to the younger generation.

Robotics as Part of STEM Education

Robotics education is also part of a broader effort to promote the development of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields in Indonesia. STEM is a field that is gaining increasing global interest and offers a wide range of career opportunities, from information technology to engineering and scientific research.

According to Gibran, by introducing robotics lessons in schools, we are not only teaching children to master technology but also helping them build analytical and creative skills that can be applied across various fields. For example, through robotics projects, students will become accustomed to working in teams, learning to plan and solve problems, and applying theory in practice—all of which are skills highly sought after in the modern workplace.

Technology-Based Education to Realize Indonesia Emas 2045

In recent years, many countries have integrated robotics into their educational curricula. Countries such as India, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore were early adopters of teaching technology to their younger generations, and they are now leaders in the fields of technology and innovation.

Gibran hopes Indonesia can follow in the footsteps of these nations to create an educational ecosystem that supports technological development.

Through robotics education, Indonesia can produce more young talent ready to fill key positions in the technology industry and accelerate innovation in the country. Gibran believes that through the right education, Indonesia can become a nation that not only imports technology but also creates and develops technology for the world.

As Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka continues to emphasize the importance of technology-based education to prepare Indonesia’s youth for the future. His recommendation to incorporate robotics lessons into the school curriculum is a crucial step toward realizing a more advanced and highly competitive Indonesia.

By equipping Indonesian children with technological skills from an early age, Gibran believes Indonesia can become a leading nation in innovation and technology. As Gibran stated, Indonesia needs a young generation skilled in technology to achieve “Indonesia Emas 2045”—an era in which Indonesia becomes a developed, innovation- and digital-driven nation.

In this regard, Codero serves as a partner in creating a technology education ecosystem. Codero helps young people across Indonesia prepare to be part of Indonesia’s technological future by providing a learning platform for coding and robotics for the younger generation.
